Mike Nolin

Mike is Mètis, was born and raised in North Battleford, Saskatchewan. Mike graduated from the University of Saskatchewan College of Arts and Science in He received his Bachelor of Laws from the University of Saskatchewan in 1999 and was admitted to the Bar in 2000. Mike has considerable litigation experience in the areas of criminal, personal injury (including a specialty in institutional sexual abuse), administrative, commercial, construction and insurance law. Mike has experience in Provincial Court, King’s Bench Court, Tax Court, Federal Court, the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada. Mike has appeared frequently before Boards and Commissions including the Liquor and Gaming Commission and the Saskatchewan Labour Relations Board. Additionally, Mike has appeared in the Manitoba and Alberta Courts of Queen’s Bench and the British Columbia Supreme Court.

Most recently he has spent the past few years working with Morris Bodnar, K.C. specializing in criminal law. Mike understands the criminal justice system is stacked against the accused. He frequently represents vulnerable sector accused through the Legal Aid Saskatchewan and Court Appointed Counsel programs. He appreciates that dealing with litigation matters can be incredibly overwhelming and extremely stressful for clients from all walks of life. Whether it is trafficking, conspiracy or murder charges, his skills and passion for the law allows him to spot the issues effectively and obtain results. He regularly appears in jury trials, preliminary inquiries, bail hearings, sentencing hearings, and appeals. With over 20 years experience in all levels of court across Canada, he has been counsel on a number of high-profile, serious and complex cases. Mike is a member of the Saskatoon Criminal Defence Lawyer’s Association, the Canadian Bar Association, and the Advocates’ Society. He has guest lectured at the University of Saskatchewan. He has presented to the Saskatoon Criminal Defence Lawyer’s Association and the Saskatchewan Trial Lawyers’ Association on a variety of criminal law topics. Mike is a certified mediator. He regularly teaches conflict resolution skills and other prerequisites for certification as a mediator through Saskatoon Community Mediation Services. He provides conflict resolution workshops, coaching and training in the workplace on a customized basis. Recently Mike has been active with the Mètis Nation-Saskatchewan as the appointed Speaker for the Mètis Nation-Saskatchewan’s semi-annual Mètis Nation Legislative Assembly.

Mike has been active in his community as well. He has played numerous sports and is most passionate about rugby. He played club and representative rugby in Saskatoon and Saskatchewan and toured the United Kingdom twice. He was selected to play for the Canadian Classics side for a game against the United States in Regina. He has coached basketball, soccer, and rugby at many levels with success. He was a basketball referee for many years. During his rugby years he was a referee and performed all other match officials’ roles. He was president of his home club, the Wild Oats. He was also President of the Saskatchewan Rugby Union.
